Board-certified expertise

Every treatment is led by board-certified orthodontist Dr. Wendy Chu, right here at our Southpoint office.

How do braces work?

Braces use small brackets bonded to each tooth and a thin wire that connects them. The wire applies gentle, steady pressure that guides each tooth into a better position over time.

At each visit Dr. Chu adjusts the wire, so the movement stays controlled and predictable. Because the brackets stay put, braces work around the clock with nothing for your child to remember or take out.

Why straighten your child's teeth?

Straighter teeth are about more than looks. When teeth line up, they're easier to brush and floss, which means fewer cavities and healthier gums. A balanced bite spreads chewing evenly, eases strain on the jaw, and often makes speaking and eating more comfortable.

And the confidence that comes with a smile your child is proud to share is real, too. It's one of the most rewarding parts of orthodontic care for the families we treat.

What to expect

From your first call to the day the braces come off, here's the path.

  1. 1

    Free consultation

Dr. Chu reviews the teeth and bite, takes images, and explains your options, timeline, and cost.

  2. 2

    Placing the braces

We bond the brackets and thread the first wire. It's painless and takes about an hour.

  3. 3

    Quick adjustments

Every few weeks we fine-tune the wire to keep teeth moving on schedule. Visits are short.

  4. 4

    Off they come

When the smile is ready, we remove the braces and fit a retainer to hold it in place.

Who needs braces, and when?

Braces help children, teens, and adults whose teeth are crowded, crooked, or gapped, or whose bite doesn't line up the way it should. Trouble chewing, a jaw that shifts or clicks, teeth that stick out, or baby teeth lost very early or very late are all good reasons for an evaluation.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first check-up by about age 7. That rarely means braces right away, but an early look lets Dr. Chu guide the jaw while it's still growing, and for some kids simple early treatment now prevents bigger work later.

There's no such thing as too old for a great smile. We treat plenty of adults right alongside our kids and teens.

Common Questions About Braces

Do braces hurt?

Braces may feel sore for a day or two after they're placed or adjusted, but they shouldn't be painful. Any tenderness usually eases quickly, and over-the-counter pain relief helps.

How long does treatment take?

Most braces treatment takes somewhere between one and three years, depending on what we're correcting. Keeping appointments and following Dr. Chu's guidance helps it finish on time.

How much do braces cost in West Jordan?

It depends on the length and complexity of treatment. We offer flexible monthly financing, review any orthodontic insurance benefits, and go over everything clearly before you start. Call (801) 676-3700 for a consultation.

How often are adjustment visits?

Most patients come in every few weeks for a short adjustment. We'll set a schedule that fits your treatment plan.

Can adults get braces too?

Absolutely. Braces work at any age, and we treat plenty of adults. Ask about clear braces or clear aligners for a more discreet look.

What foods should we avoid with braces?

Skip hard, sticky, and chewy foods like ice, hard candy, caramel, and gum, which can pop a bracket or bend a wire. We'll send you home with a simple list.
